TALK:
ASTROPHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE CITY – HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE?
Prof Peter Dunsby – Cosmologist, Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, UCT
As a Cosmologist, my day job is focused on trying to figure out the nature of Dark Energy. This talk will describe what I do after the sun sets.
Astrophotography has made huge advances over the past decade, making it now possible to automate the capture of high-resolution images of deep sky objects with very modest equipment in heavily light polluted areas. In this talk I will describe how the pandemic provided the opportunity to build a fully automated observatory in the southern suburbs of Cape Town and how it contributes to my outreach activities. If the weather plays along, I will also connect to my observatory and live-stream from one of my telescopes.

EVENT DETAILS:
COST: R50pp – FULLY BOOKED (includes light refreshments and full programme)
*This event has a limited capacity of 100 people. Book now to secure your ticket to avoid disappointment!
** Kindly note that night sky viewing with our telescopes is weather dependent.
