The Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) is seeking a vibrant, articulate & an enthusiastic person to fill the full-time position of Front of house Receptionist. The role primarily involves interacting with visitors as they enter the CTSC, processing admission and membership purchases, answering the CTSC’s phones addressing client queries, and completing administrative tasks while maintaining the highest standards of friendly, helpful and responsive visitor service at all times.

Key Requirements:

• Minimum Grade 12 (Matric)
• Experience in a similar role/science centre environment (advantageous)
• Excellent communication skills (written & especially verbal)
• Good telephone etiquette and diction
• Be able to work independently as well as in a team and be self-motivated
• Be able to communicate fluently in English, Afrikaans and it is advantageous to have one other South African language
• Ability to effectively relay messages
• Computer literacy skills including MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, and Outlook.
• Time and resource management skills
• Ability to read, discuss and interpret information with the visitors
• Well-developed interpersonal skills
• Organized administration skills
• Ability to be flexible and work unusual hours when required
• Able to work on weekends and public holidays when required
• Database management
• Some knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts (advantageous)
• Punctual
• A love for science, education and children

Principle Accountabilities:

• Welcoming and greeting visitors, answering phones, managing the switchboard, accepting deliveries, furnishing visitors with information in relation to their queries.
• Perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the Director and/or a Manager
• Assist with Cash office duties when needed and with counting takings and creating floats
• On occasion, remaining for evening functions to perform reception duties
• Updating and maintaining the CTSC membership database as required, printing and laminating membership cards and communicating with members when necessary
• Assist with party bookings
• Manage lost property
• Manage all databases relevant to visiting visitors
• Keeping up to date with all activities taking place within the Cape Town Science Centre
• Keeping the front desk and reception area neat and tidy and ensuring brochures are displayed adequately, alerting Marketing when brochures are running low
• Communicate all visitor concerns (verbal and otherwise) to management
• Be flexible and willing to assist in other departments if needed
• Assist with facilitation on the exhibition floor from time to time as requested
• Assist with admin duties for special programmes
• Establish and maintain good relationships with all the CTSC’s audiences, marketing the CTSC
• Provide professional and friendly service to all the CTSC audiences at all times
