COVID-19 Explained

Is it still important to wear a mask, socially distance and avoid crowded space? What exactly is the South African variant of Covid-19? What are the clinical manifestations of COVID-19? Join Dr Tari Papavarnavas as he demystifies COVID-19: the clinical and virological aspects of the variant, and the continued need for non-pharmacological interventions to curb the spread of the disease.

The Cape Town Science Centre has partnered with the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital to bring you a series of interactive talks (via Zoom) to give you access to a doctor who can answer some of these questions as well help us understand the virus a bit more.

Dr Papavarnavas completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Pretoria, and became interested in infectious diseases as an intern. He went on to complete a diploma in HIV management through the College of Medicine of South Africa, and a diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene through the University of Liverpool. He completed his specialist physician training in 2019, and is currently sub-specialising in infectious diseases at the University of Cape Town.”
