Water is the liquid that makes life on Earth possible. All living things, from tiny cyanobacteria to giant blue whales, need water to survive. Without water, life as we know it would not exist. And life exists wherever there is water.

Learn more about the Wonders of Water on Saturdays at the Cape Town Science Centre during the month of March.

Workshop – Algae Adventures!

Algae are tiny, plant-like organisms that live in water. They can be found in places like ponds, lakes, oceans and fish tanks. Algae can be important because they make oxygen as well as provide food for many animals in the water. We will explore, create and learn about the important role algae plays in our ecosystem.

Demonstration in The Science Corner: Saltwater Secrets

Density Discovery! We will discover the hidden properties of saltwater and learn how density affects the way objects float and sink.

Dive into a world of engineering and creativity in our DIY Water Tap workshop. We will discover how water flow and pressure work together to make taps operate.

Friendly reminder that the Cape Town Science Centr

Friendly reminder that the Cape Town Science Centre will be closed to the general public tomorrow, Friday 14, and Saturday 15 February 2025 for the STEM Clubs Network Teacher Training.

The CTSC will reopen to school groups and visitors on Monday, 17 February, and resume our weekend programme on Saturday 22 February 2025.

The STEM Clubs Network is revving to go for the 20

The STEM Clubs Network is revving to go for the 2025 school year!

On Friday 7th and Saturday 8th February 2025, registered teachers from Metro Central and Metro South districts attended the STEM Clubs Network’s Level Up Lab held at the Cape Town Science Centre.

The THINK * TINKER * TEACH programme was introduced by STEM Clubs Network Project Manager Amicia Canterbury, and comprised of informative, fun and interactive, teacher training sessions facilitated by the CTSC team. Teachers left the Cape Town Science Centre with the STEM Clubs Network Manual, Activity Book and kit in hand, ready to begin the Teacher Led and Learner Driven STEM Clubs at their schools!

We look forward to welcoming Metro East and North teachers this coming Friday 14th and Saturday 15th February 2025. Kindly note that the CTSC will be closed to the general public on these days and will reopen to school groups and visitors next week Monday.

The STEM Clubs Network is an initiative of the Western Cape Education Department in collaboration with the Cape Town Science Centre, an extra-curricular support programme to promote STEM engagement, literacy and career development in the province.
