To all our friends of the Cape Town Science Centre
(Learners, teachers, families, supporters, partners, social media followers, Board members, Scientific Advisory Committee, neighbours…)
Thank you for supporting us in the myriad of different ways that you do! The last two years have been challenging but at the same time they have been good years, and that is really all thanks to you!
We have been extremely active and indeed in this year (2021) we have had many firsts and successes, a few of which are highlighted below. For this we owe a deep gratitude to our supporters and partners, and our incredibly resilient and innovative team.

While we did not open-up the actual centre to our visitors completely this year, we did manage to open for several public days and events and for school groups in the fourth term (fully booked!!). On all accounts everyone was delighted to visit again and experience our exhibits, workshops, science shows, demonstrations and more. Indeed, the human experience has never been more treasured.
A significant footprint
While visits to the our centre were limited due to Covid, we achieved a significant footprint with our mobile units, our live online and recorded workshops, our content development and programme management among our other offerings. Thank you specifically to SPAC, Astron Energy, Western Cape Education Department (WCED), The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and GiZ, and Google, who have entrusted us to do important work in education not only in South Africa but across Africa and the Global South.
Cape Town Holiday Programme and Opening Dates
Do join us at our centre from the 3rd to the 18th of January for our Summer Vibes Holiday Programme. Bookings on Webtickets (we encourage contactless payment) and all Covid protocols strictly adhered to. School group bookings are also open for 2022 – www.ctsc.org.za/schools/book-a-school-group-visit/. Please note we are closed for now and open again on Monday, 3 January 2022.
Building refurbishment
Our building refurbishment is still in process. We thank you for your patience as the Department of Public Works attends to this, who in turn have had their hands full dealing with issues related to the pandemic.
Our neighbourhood
We look forward to the opening of the world-class forensic laboratory next door and you can look forward to many exciting related workshops and activities at the CTSC in the future – CSI Cape Town!! We are pleased to find ourselves still thriving in Observatory where residential, commercial, medical and academic organisations continue to be established and grow, a central suburb that is easily accessible to all communities.
Excellent Governance
As a registered Non-Profit Organisation and Public Benefit Organisation, the governance of our foundation (the Cape Town Science Centre operates under the auspices of the Interactive Science Foundation) is key. We are enormously grateful to our dedicated Board who are actively involved and direct us with great care and wisdom, and most notably so in the past two years.
2022
We are positive and hopeful that 2022 will continue to see us grow and explore new ways of inspiring our youth as science is central to the sustainable solutions we need for the problems we encounter in our world! Please continue to support us on our Mission.
Thank you sincerely once again. Wishing you good health and importantly some festive cheer!
