A fun experiment that you can try out with your family at the dinner table this evening.
You will need:
● 2 raw eggs
● Two glasses
● Water
● Salt
What to do:
Fill both glasses three-quarters of the way with water. In one of the glasses, add about 6 tablespoons of salt. Stir it up to dissolve the salt in the water as much as you can. Now carefully place an egg in each glass. The egg in the saltwater floats while the other sinks!
What to look out for:
Dissolving the salt in the water increases the density of that water. Density is a measure of mass in a specific volume. This essentially makes the water heavier than the egg, so the egg floats in the saltwater solution.
