Vacancy: PROJECT COORDINATOR
The main objective of this position is to support and drive the STEM Clubs and REACH projects at the Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC), ensuring that project objectives are met within the established scope and schedule. The role also entails working collaboratively as an integral member of the CTSC education unit.
The responsibilities of the Project Coordinator will include providing strategic and operational input on primarily the STEM Clubs and REACH projects, overseeing the administrative and logistical tasks related to the projects, serving as a point of contact for stakeholders, actively participating in the development and implementation of educational programs and resources, and collaborating with the CTSC education unit to maintain a high standard of excellence and service delivery.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. As a key member of the CTSC education unit, you will oversee the implementation of the educational projects specified above, ensuring the projects are well-organised and run smoothly.
2. Build strong relationships with the project team and key stakeholders.
3. Think creatively to solve-problems, maximise opportunities and mitigate risks as you monitor the project’s progress and handle any issues that arise.
4. Provide strategic input, managing risks and opportunities.
5. As an active member of the education unit, you will contribute to the development and preparation of educational resources related to the project.
6. Host, facilitate and/or present at events and workshops as required.
7. Perform general administrative tasks related to communication (emails, letters, calls, etc.), record keeping and report writing.
8. Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants.
9. Manage the equipment utilised for the project and ensuring an accurate inventory is kept and maintained and sign-out protocols are adhered to.
10. Ensure that safety standards and practices are always maintained and adhered to.
11. Maintain high levels of excellence and professionalism.
12. Be able to travel if required and work on weekends and public holidays when required.
13. Must have a valid driver’s license
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Education:
• Relevant Science/Technical/Teaching qualification.
Experience:
• 1 – 2 years Project Coordinator experience.
• Developing educational materials would be advantageous.
Knowledge/Skills:
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans. Proficiency in isiXhosa advantageous.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills (written and verbal).
• Be self-motivated, attentive, and always follow through.
• Solid multitasking and time-management skills.
• Be productive, dependable and have a ‘can do’ attitude.
• Time and resource management skills.
• Excellent computer literacy (Microsoft office, Internet & Email).
• Proficient use of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts and Skype.
• Be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Must be proactive and self-motivated.
• Group management skills with the ability to handle a large group of people comfortably.
• Good facilitation and presentation skills.
• Understand and appreciate the unique environment of the Science Centre.
• Be innovative and a self-starter.
• Valid Code 8 driver’s license.
• Be able to take direction from multiple managers.
