In collaboration with the Cape Town Science Centre, Will Colglazier, an engineering student from Texas A&M University (USA), alongside his team of passionate Computer and Data Science students from Stellenbosch University, is bringing this cutting-edge learning experience to life. Together, we aim to unlock the incredible potential of Africa’s next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and change-makers.
Our program begins with a comprehensive introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), laying a strong foundation for students to understand the transformative potential of these technologies. From there, we dive into the world of Python programming, where students will learn essential coding skills and apply them to build and fine-tune chatbots – one of the most exciting applications of AI.
Next, we explore the core principles of neural network design, empowering students to build intelligent models that can recognize patterns, make decisions, and solve complex problems. By the end of the program, students will have gained practical experience in AI, learned valuable skills, and started their journey toward a rewarding career in the world of artificial intelligence.
William Colglazier is an undergraduate student in the Engineering Honors Program at Texas A&M University,USA, pursuing a double major in Data Engineering and Applied Computational Mathematics. Currently, he is interning at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he applies machine learning techniques to quantum chemistry and physics. William has developed a strong expertise in AI, quantum computing, and machine learning through various research roles, including his work on molecular discovery and portfolio optimization using quantum computers. He has also contributed to AI-driven research at Texas A&M’s DIVE Lab, focusing on advanced applications of Graph Neural Networks.
A driven entrepreneur from a young age, William’s innovation was recognized early when, at just 9 years old, he won the Global Entrepreneur Award at the Data Days Conference in Belgium for his mobile app, @me-on-the-move, which connects users to events across multiple cities using open data. In 2015, he founded WillCcreations.com, a platform for his startup ideas, and developed a Minecraft design course that he taught at the Cape Town Science Center from 2015 to 2017. Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, William is also an active leader in the Aggie AI Society and has founded a developmental movement program for children at the Time of Wonder Early Learning Center. He is committed to advancing research and contributing to innovations at the intersection of technology and science.
Josh Beckley is a Data Science student at Stellenbosch University interested in the intersection of AI and medicine. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar and working on hardware and software projects, exploring ways technology can improve everyday life.
