fracking in the karooFracking is a high-risk activity that can impact human health and the wider environment. Free and fully-informed consent of local communities is not applied for most fracking projects prior to both exploration and exploitation phases, while they should be placed at the heart of the discussions.

Greenpeace will be facilitating this event to allow for discussion with concerned citizens and affected communities to better understand the immeasurable risks that fracking presents. Also to uncover why viable alternatives available to meet the region’s energy needs with minimal environmental impacts are not being invested in. The event is an open discussion and encourages members from the social, civil, business and science sectors to join the event.
